Love, a mystery as old as time, cannot be described in a word or two. However, many authors have tried to portray the magic of love through their creative works. Whether following the age-old tale of two lost souls finding love unexpectedly or falling for each other at first sight, the beautiful thing about love is that it resonates with everyone. Mary Alcock, an avid romance genre lover, aims to ignite intense feelings of passion and desire with her book A Day Between Destinies. And her story is unlike any you have come across. How so?
They met, looks exchanged, a smile or two. Giggles turned into intimate conversations as the sun grew old, and so did their little encounter. The universe operates on a delicate balance between space and time, but when they met, the space caved in mysteriously; time didn’t matter. And all that was left was a question, “What now?” Nothing lasts forever, but when you see forever in a day, what do you do?
Such was the curious case of two souls, Isabelle and Luke, in Mary Alcock’s riveting love story, A Day Between Destinies.
As the title suggests, the story encapsulates the connection between love and destiny. Humans have not been able to fully describe both constructs, but Alcock’s attempt to weave her explanation of love and fate is remarkable.
We sat down with the esteemed author to help us decipher her ideology on the connection.
Here’s what Mary had to say:
“First off, let’s talk about love, shall we? The thing is, everyone has their own definition of love, purely because everyone’s story is different. To some, love is madness, pure affection; for others, it is sacrifice or companionship based upon logic and reason.
To me, love was always a matter of destiny.
Think about it: all of the people you’ve met in your life and all your experiences became a core memory to you; your “love” was one subconscious decision away from not happening at all. Even the universe’s balance relies on a delicate equilibrium of atoms and molecules, a fraction away from being disturbed, and everything ceases to exist.
Something bigger is in play here.
I firmly believe, with all my heart, that we don’t meet anyone without a reason. Everyone who enters and goes from our life teaches us something, giving us something valuable to learn, sometimes about them and sometimes about ourselves. They become a part of you. That very reason is what I wished to show in the book A Day Between Destinies.”
Luke and Isabelle’s story starts with a chance encounter that turns into something beautiful. As the day passed, and it was time for them to say goodbye, we wondered, “Will they meet again?”
There comes a point in everyone’s love story where circumstance intervenes. This is when sadness creeps in; you try your best to bet on the chances but are afraid of how it may end. Logic is important, too, but you disregard it just to save something so beautiful. At this point, you rely on the very destiny that made you meet your significant other.
As they say, “If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it’s yours; if it doesn’t, it never was.”
If you’re reading this and you’re struggling with a similar situation where you’re overwhelmed by the “goodbye,” have faith in the destiny that brought you together.
Sometimes, it’s better to leave a painting unfinished than for it to be speckled with colors that don’t belong there.
The only question remains: “Will Luke and Isabelle finish theirs?”
