Call it destiny, fate, or some higher power, but it is hard to deny the influence of an intervention more powerful than ourselves in our lives. When you predict and anticipate your life to go a certain way, a curveball completely changes the trajectory. You go about your day knowing nothing much has changed, but one interaction, smile, and giggle rewrites your story.

Destiny, by definition, refers to a series of events that will happen to a particular person in the future. It is an inevitable force that leaves us humans at its mercy. It’s scary and reassuring at the same time. How so? Knowing something you want in life isn’t meant for you; you won’t get it no matter how hard you try; it’s a hard pill to swallow. At the same time, destiny brings reassurance, that if something is written for you, it will eventually find you.

Of course, this doesn’t mean we stop trying entirely and rely on fate to dictate how we live. “Trying” is a part of destiny too. Your story might already be planned out, but it is up to you to grab the opportunities that arise in plain sight.

Author Mary Alcock presents a book that encapsulates the influence of destiny in our lives, leading to beautiful experiences, moments to cherish, and, potentially, the love of your life.

A Day Between Destinies is the story of Isabelle and Luke, two souls heading to their own respective destinations. But destiny has other plans for them. They find their paths crossed, and their fates align in the serendipitous backdrop of Vienna. Silence transcends into laughs and nightlong conversations, signaling something more.

As their chance encounter leads to a sad farewell, will destiny see them meet again?

Only one way to find out.
